Tailgate party encourages school spirit

Wednesday evening marked the first ever tailgate party on campus. There was free food, music and a paint station.

Almost 180 students participated, many waiting in a long line outside the gym for hot dogs and chips served under a red NIC tent by Austin Folnagy, ASNIC president. The crowd ranged from sports teams and groups of friends to students just looking for a free meal.

Speakers blasted music as they kept the fans entertained.

Allison Rochford and Sheyne Possman used their artistic skills to help make red and black signs supporting for the evening’s volleyball game. The paint eventually made its way from the poster pages and onto people’s skin. ASNIC vice president, Jude Detar, practicing what he preaches, said “we need more school spirit” as Luisa Yribe painted his shirtless skin. Other spirited students like Ula Tauala, who plays on the women’s basketball team, also took the opportunity to paint their skin for a cause.

The tailgate proved to be successful, rallying up cardinal fans for the volleyball players who proved to be victorious against the Green River Gators.
