NIC men’s basketball rolls over Eastern Utah

The NIC men’s basketball team defeated Utah State University-Eastern Utah 71-44 Jan. 17 at Rolly Williams Court.

Jalil Abdul-Bassit had 24 points, two rebounds and one assist.

“I feel good about tonight’s game,” said NIC head coach Jared Phay. “Utah has a solid team. I think our depth wore them down a little bit. I’m just happy with our team’s effort.”

Cole Luckett had nine points and two rebounds, and Keon Lewis had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Cardinals.

NIC led at halftime 29-22.

“We weren’t guarding with quite as much intensity in the first half as we did in the second,” Phay said.

James Webb III hit a three-pointer late in the second half. Webb scored nine points and had eight defensive rebounds. Chris Sarbaugh finished the game with four points and six defensive rebounds.

“We’re just trying to be better defensively every game,” Phay said. “I think we can be the best defensive team in the conference if we really figure things out.”
