NIC women’s soccer beats Northwest College

After falling to Northwest Nazarene University in the first game of the Cardinal Classic soccer tournament, the North Idaho College women’s soccer team beat Northwest College 1-0 at NIC Sunday in their second and final game of the tournament.

Jaimee Hulst put up the only point of the day with a goal in the first half.

“We definitely had really good passing and we talked more than usual and I think that helped us a lot,” Hulst said.

NIC’s Emilee Cordon nearly scored a goal later in the first half that would have put the Cardinals up 2-0. Cordon passed a short corner kick to Kellsi Parson. Parson delivered it right back to Cordon who struck the ball, hitting it high off of the right post and bouncing away.

NIC head coach Dan Hogan said his team “possessed the ball a lot better, especially the first half ” than in other games this season and there was “a lot better movement out of our forwards and midfielders.”

The Cardinals tied Northwest College Aug. 25 in Powell, Wyo.

NIC (2-0-1) hits the road for two games in Cheyenne, Wyo. The first game is Sept. 7 against Iowa Lakes Community College and the second game Sept. 8 against Laramie County Community College.
