Cardinal Men’s Soccer defend undefeated title

On Tuesday the men’s soccer team beat the Walla Walla CC Warriors who are known for their strong offense in the North Athletic Conference.

The first ten minutes of the game passed with the muffled noise of cleats tearing the grass, honed effort, and anticipation as the players pushed and strained for the ball. Finally, Alec Johnson defense number 13, headed the ball that a Warrior tried to clear back into the box where Braden Ridgewell, midfielder number 10, sunk it in the net for the first goal of the game.

Ridgewell also received a yellow card when attempting to score in an interaction with the Warrior’s goalkeeper who appeared injured and was helped off the field.

The ball went back and forth across the field but no more shots were made until after halftime when the warriors were fouled and Johnson booted a free kick that curved right into the corner of the net.

Matt Howard made a left foot distance shot for the third goal and then in the 63rd minute Jake Kraut punched in the fourth goal from Aaron Crossingham’s corner kick.

Mitch Markovets, one of the Card’s goalies, received a yellow card for dissent and the Warriors scored their only goal in the resulting penalty kick.

Tony Quesnell, midfielder number 2, kicked in the last goal in the remaining minutes of the game making it his first collegiate goal.
