English Club Book Swap a Success

The North Idaho College English Club hosted every avid readers’ dream in the Student Union Building Thursday.

The special event allowed students to come to the SUB and pick from stacks of free books to take home with them.

“My idea was to create a book swap,” said club member, Chris Locke, 25, “basically just to get books out to people, you know, spread around literature, even if it’s not necessarily literature. Just trying to get people to read.”

Locke expressed his hopes that the event would provide opportunities for students to learn and grow intellectually.

“I think that it gives [students] a chance to read, and maybe read something that they hadn’t thought of; getting excited about reading and English in general.”

Locke hopes the event will help promote the English Club, as well as its affiliate, the Trestle Creek Review, a literary journal published by NIC.

“I find it fun,” said Hannah Stewart, 22, of the event. “I enjoy books, I like to read, and they’re useful and interesting.”

The English Club will be hosting a lecture on Scottish poet, Hugh MacDiarmid, given by Audrey Cameron on November 6th.

Taylor Nadauld is the Lead Reporter for the Sentinel. This is her third semester at NIC where she is pursuing an A.S. degree in Journalism.
