Cardinals survive hawk attack

North Idaho College was able to overcome Columbia Basin College Wednesday evening in a nail biting finish with a final score of 3-2.

Columbia Basin was dominant in what amounted to a very slow first half, coming off the field one point ahead of NIC’s zero.

“We stunk first half,” coach Ken Thompson said. “We were slow, we were groggy, and it didn’t even look like we wanted to win. And that’s what I told the team at half.”

Coach Thompson’s speech must have worked, because in the second half the Cardinals asserted their dominance and kept the momentum on their side.

NIC’s Hamidou Kante managed to grab two goals and an assist by the end of the game, one of which being the game winner within the final minutes of the game.

Though the Cardinals pulled off the win, Kante shared similar views on the game as coach Thompson.

“We did not play well the first half,” Kante said. “We were very slow and had bad communication. The second half was a lot better though. We equalized the game and came out on top.”

This win put NIC in the number one spot in the eastern division of the Northwest Athletic conference.
