Cardinal ladies shutout Walla Walla

The NIC women secured the vast lead that led to their 4-0 victory over Walla Walla Community College within the first 20 minutes of the game.

Even with the cold rainy conditions, the ladies held possession on Walla Walla’s end nearly the entire first half where they scored three goals.

“(We’ve been working on) possession, speed and working the post,” said NIC forward Megan Lowery.

NIC’s superb defense allowed only a handful of opportunities throughout the duration of the game.

NIC’s Haley White had an excellent game, scoring a point and grabbing an assist on a goal from freshman Emily Aspden in the first half.

White’s second half breakaway goal was simply an exclamation mark on the excellent performance by the NIC ladies.

“We did a lot of work on finishing and keeping our shots low,” said Lowery.

Lowery joined in on the trio of goal-scorers for the game shortly after White’s first half goal.

The women’s victory ties them for second in the overall conference standings, as well as points scored.

Their next game will be this Saturday hosting the Community College of Spokane, the leading team in their conference.

“We need to work on first touches and making decisions faster so we can play faster,” said Lowery.

This Wednesday’s game put the ladies at 3-1-1 for the season so far.
