The ‘swain’ event: local fighter wins big

Professional MMA fighter Daniel “Agent Orange” Swain defeated Gabriel Solorio by submission in the first-round (3:26) of the main event fight Thursday Night in front of a packed crowd at Coeur D’ Alene Casino.

WORLEY- The night was nearing its end and already moved through its first 9 fights of a 10 fight card, with only the main event remaining.

The lights went out and all eyes were glued to the event center’s adjacent jumbotron’s, where Both Swain (14-6-1) and Solorio (12-10) were giving the audience their two-cents, minutes before making it to the center cage.

In Swain’s closing statement he uttered a phrase that incorporated both his red-hair and his personality; “Gabriel, you’re about to get ginger snapped.”

“Fighting is such a brutal and primal sport, and whenever there is a chance to make people laugh, and let them have fun, I’m going to do it.” Said Swain, “fighting is fun to me, and I want to make it fun for everybody else too…. That’s who I am.”

Right out of the gates Swain looked a little stagnant, and took a few shots by Solario. Swain then immediately woke up after, and took control of the fight.

He then began an array of motions; He tripped him at ease, grabbed him, twirled him around in the air like a stuffed animal, and then slammed him onto the mat.

He never looked back after that turning point. Swain basically mounted, punched, elbowed, and bullied Solorio for the remainder of the bout, until he finally collected his 15th win by submitting Solorio by way of an arm-bar at 3:23 in the first round.

“I went out and did exactly what I needed to.” Swain said, “I got in the perfect flow, and I could just feel it.”

Not only is Swain a professional fighter, he is also a husband, a full-time student at Spokane Falls Community College, and moonlights as a customer service technician at Lifecare Solutions.

“It’s a struggle, but it’s a good struggle and good life.” Swain commented, “I do all this because of the support from a great wife and great family. “I get to go out there every day and do what I love, and I couldn’t do that without them.

Swain’s victory last night was crucial for his fighting career. He now is in talks with King of The Cage for future endeavors, and he could end up with a belt in the future. He added, “2016 is gonna be a good a good year for me.”
