Brief New Orleans overview

Three staff members from the Sentinel and their instructor bade farewell to the cold overcast Idaho and were welcomed to the hot and humid city of New Orleans, Louisiana on Sept. 17. There they spent the next 3 full days and 3 nights attending conferences sessions, sweating their faces off and exploring the city. Michelle Mills, managing editor of the Sentinel, Tim Gant, media editor and Katie Hartwig, photo editor were the staff members who attended.

The conference meeting topics ranged from reporting on domestic abuse to applying virtual reality in the news world. Whether the interest at the convention was in reporting itself or the tools used in reporting, this convention had it all.

When not attending the many conferences of the convention you could be guaranteed that both students and their instructor would be eating their way through the city and exploring the many sights while they were there.

From Tulane University to the French Market, and from Bourbon Street to the river front they saw (and ate) it all, and also while picking up on valuable skills to be used by journalists in the future.
