“Sasquatch Hunter’s Almanac” author at NIC

She read with fluency and poise from her new novel, “The Sasquatch Hunters Almanac.” There were laughs and snickers around the room as she read from the first chapter of her new 2016 Washington State Book Award winner.

Sharma Shields came to NIC to give a reading from her new book at the Writing Center on campus on Oct.18.

Shields is also the author of the short story collection “Favorite Monster.” Her work has appeared in Electric Lit, Slice, The New York Times and elsewhere. She has won varying awards such as the Autumn House Fiction Prize and the Tim McGinnis Award for Humor.

Shields received her B.A. in English Literature from the University of Washington (2000) and her MFA from the University of Montana (2004).

Shields loves Greek Mythology and said it was her first love. Her book travels through mythology and monster myths to a T.

“Greek Mythology was always my bread and butter,” she said.

Shields said of her passion,

“Writing allows me to explore.”
