2nd 2016- The Chicago Cubs won the World series breaking a 108-year draught.

5th 1994 – George Foreman, 45, became boxing’s oldest heavyweight champion when he knocked out Michael Moorer in the 10th round of their WBA fight in Las Vegas, NV.

9th 1997 – Barry Sanders (Detroit Lions) became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in nine straight seasons. In the same game Sanders passed former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett for third place on the all-time rushing list.

12th 1933 – In Philadelphia, the first Sunday football game was played.

16th 1994 – Major League Soccer announced that it would start its inaugural season in 1996.

22nd 1950 – The lowest scoring game in the NBA was played. The Fort Wayne Pistons (later the Detroit Pistons) defeated the Minneapolis Lakers (later the Los Angeles Lakers) 19-18.

26th 1958 – Maurice Richard (Montreal Canadians) scored his 600th NHL career goal.

29th 1890 – Navy defeated Army by a score of 24-0 in the first Army-Navy football game. The game was played at West Point, NY.
