Cards drop 100 on Wenatchee, Clinch Final Playoff Spot

The NIC Men’s Basketball team beat Wenatchee Community College 100-69 on Sophomore Night Feb. 28, securing their playoff spot.

In their final home game, sophomore Tyler Brimhall dropped 28 points, Jalen Burkett had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Aushanti Potts-Woods added 15 points. The three shot the ball a combined 57 percent from the field. Freshman RayQuan Evans scored 21 and grabbed 11 boards for the Cards as well.

The Cardinals led by nine at halftime, unable to put away the Knights. It was only a matter of time in the second half, though. Brimhall got hot from the field, Burkett couldn’t miss from mid-range, Evans got to the hole at will, and the defense locked down the opposition, forcing panic and errant passing from the visitors.

The win allowed the Cardinals to nab the final playoff spot. They will await their fate in the 16 team tournament; the selection show is Sunday. The Cards finished in a second place tie with Spokane for the division crown, behind the Warriors of Walla Walla.

Overall the Cards finished 21-8, 11-5 in conference play. They will head into the postseason coming off a dominant win, but overall having lost three of five.
