The road closures are taking effect for the construction of a seawall ranging from Northwest Boulevard to City Park.

Student parking and travel time will be affected in most cases until the opening of the closed roads.

During the time of construction, various areas of Downtown Coeur d’Alene will be closed such as City Park and City Beach.

The current seawall ranges from First Street to Lakeside Avenue and was built in the 1940’s as a form of flood control.

According to an article by the Coeur d’Alene Press a recommended uprooting and removal of 500 trees along the beachside of North Idaho College was recommended by the Army Corps of Engineers but no action has been taken so far.

A press release reported over 200 uprights or “H” beams and 1,700 planks will be installed for the seawall. The new addition has been calculated to protect the city edges from erosion and flooding of over 2,000 feet above sea level.
