Emerge Art Gallery hosts annual Ink! Print Rally

“Resiliency” was the theme for Emerge Art Gallery’s second annual Ink! Print Rally, a free community art event held at the Emerge Gallery in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Saturday. Artists collaborated with local college students and university art professors to provide some PDA, that is, public display of art.

Resiliency is the character trait that can help people bounce back after difficult experiences. Developed through weathering life’s pressures, resiliency helps people find healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with crisis.

Ink was slathered and rolled out over original wood carved panels; an asphalt steamroller applied pressure, stamping the image onto cloth. The process of art was the focus, giving the public a direct view of art in motion.

Reinaldo Gil Zambrano, a professional artist and instructor at both Gonzaga and EWU, said, “It’s all about collaborating, building community, and helping others understand the process of making art.”

Jeni Hegsted, executive director of Emerge and host of the Ink! Print Rally applies for grants and funding that can provide the supplies needed for all artists to come out and represent the community-connecting process of making art.

Along with watching the art process in motion, attendees experienced interactive printmaking booths, food, live music, and art for purchase, all made by local artisans and makers.
