NIC soccer weekend recap

The North Idaho soccer teams hosted Wenatchee Valley over the weekend, with both teams ending with contrasting results. The women’s team won with a 7-0 final score. The men’s team couldn’t match the women, ending the game at 0-3.

The women were coming off a disheartening loss earlier in the week to Yakima and saw this game as an opportunity to get back on track. They did not disappoint. Twenty minutes into the game, they had secured the game with a 3-0 lead, but the game didn’t end there. Sophomore Ellory Ferris, the team leader in goals, notched two more in the second half to go along with an assist. Sophomore Linnea Pretzer also scored her fifth goal of the season. In net, freshman Kaysha Bailey picked up another shutout win.

Heading to Walla Walla on Wednesday, the Lady Cards currently sit second in the NWAC in goals scored in conference play; 22 goals in only four games. They begin the tough stretch of the season, getting ready to take on the top teams in the East Region in the next couple of games.

The Men couldn’t follow suit on Saturday unable to find the net in their loss to the Knights of Wenatchee. They held tight in the first half, keeping the visitors off the board. Ultimately, though, the Cardinals couldn’t keep up and ended up losing their first conference game of the season. Luis Hernandez did have a solid showing in net, making twelve saves, saving NIC from an uglier deficit.

Still looking to find a rhythm and some consistency, they will travel to face Walla Walla on Saturday. The Warriors currently pace the East Region, 3-0 with fifteen goals scored so far. A win for NIC would be a huge momentum block to build upon going down the stretch.
