NIC Wrestling Supports Finding a Cure

North Idaho College Wrestling showed their dedication to the community as they volunteered at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday.

There was a non-competitive and competitive portion of the event that started and ended on the North Idaho College campus. Participants had the option of a 5k or one mile route.

Members of the wrestling team could be found along the route cheering on participants, handing out waters, and congratulating finishers at the finish line.

“We get to meet people that have beat it, and people that are still going through it,” Wrestler James Allen said. “It’s really inspiring.”

Participants in the race consisted of cancer survivors, friends and family of survivors, and members of the Coeur D’Alene community that just want to support the cause.

Members of the NIC Wrestling team had their own connection to the cause.

“I’m truly privileged to be here,” Hasaan Hawthorne said. “I’ve had people that I know pass away to cancer so it’s really touching to be here.”
