Rathdrum Auto Repair Program now accepting applications

NIC’s Auto Repair Program is settled into its new state-of-the-art facility located in Rathdrum at the Parker Technical Education Center and is now accepting applications from the community for vehicle repair.

Beginning mid-March, students will begin live hands-on training with direct supervision in services ranging from tune-ups, suspension repair, cooling systems, transmission diagnosis, and more.

“We are looking for viable, live-work requests for vehicle repairs”, states Steve Schlauch, NIC Automotive Technology Instructor, “and the types of repair we offer is contingent on what the student is currently learning in class and instructor approval.”

There is no charge for labor that is performed on customer vehicles, however, there is a charge for parts ordered as well as nominal lab fees.

“We do not rush students through their work and cannot guarantee a finish date.  Please be sure to arrange alternate transportation during this time. We are not fast, but thorough!” said Schlauch.

Parker technical education center is the new home to eight of NIC’s Career and Technical Programs and was open for business in September of 2016.  The new facility was built to accommodate student and industry demand as well as offer the necessary room for expansion.  Currently, there are about 300 students attending the new facility.

“We are really grateful for all of the new equipment and extra space to work,” said Auto Repair Program student Jesus Garcia-Carranza.  “I am really passionate about working on cars, and with this training, I will be able to get a job with my family’s business when I move back to California this summer.”
