Upcoming fall, holiday movies

It’s  fall, everybody! You know what that means? Well yes, I guess it means leaves turning colors, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and all of that boring hogwash. What I’m excited for are fall movie releases! Autumn is that beautiful time of year when directors release their A-game, competing for Oscar nominations, and more importantly, pushing all of the awful summer flicks out of cinemas.
To guide you on your cinematic endeavors this fall, I’ve highlighted some promising films that are to be released in the coming months;
“The Counselor” – Directed by Ridley Scott, Oct. 25
“The Counselor” is a thriller built upon man’s habit for greed. It stars Michael Fassbender, and features Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt, and Cameron Diaz, with direction by master filmmaker Ridley Scott, and a screenplay by the great Cormack McCarthy himself. Is anyone else getting chills yet?
“About Time” – Directed by Richard Curtis, Nov. 1
About Time is a romantic comedy with a twist – time travel! The movie follows young Tim Lake (Dornhall Gleeson) as he pursues the love of his life, Mary (Rachel McAdams), after he finds out that he has inherited the gift of time travel from his father. This movie looks like a slight shift from the norm, just enough of a shift to keep my attention, but not enough to overwhelm me.
“The Wolf of Wall Street” – Directed by Martin Scorsese, Nov. 15
Scorsese is back! And he’s partnered up once again with Leonardo DiCaprio. This time, the dynamic duo are taking on the all-American focus on wealth, sex, and power via the story of Jordan Belfort’s struggle with securities fraud in 1990’s Wall Street. I don’t need to say more; it’s a Scorsese film with Leonardo DiCaprio, featuring others such as Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey. What more do you want?
“Her” – Directed by Spike Jonze, Dec. 18
I’m more excited for this film than any other this year. It’s directed by Spike Jonze, whose other films such as “Adaptation”, “Being John Malkovich”, and “Where the Wild Things Are,” have been fresh, creative routes away from the beaten path. His new film, “Her,” is considered a science fiction-romance story. That’s right, you can mix the two, and good ‘ol Spike isn’t afraid to do it. The movie features Joaquin Phoenix as the emotionally vulnerable Theodore Twombly, who falls in love with his artificially intelligent operating system (Scarlett Johansson). The trailer looks gorgeous, and the concept is already thought provoking. I can’t wait!
