Opinion: Gun control not right for America

Gun control. Those two words seem to cause quite a commotion. Personally, I am opposed to any gun control. Per the Second Amendment, we, the people, have the right to bear arms. Just as much as the right to eat and breathe. It’s just a shame that some people in this world are just too stupid and lack the common sense that is required to properly handle a weapon of any kind. I mean, it’s the people that kill, not the gun. I mean, does Rosie O’Donnell blame silverware because she’s fat? Do families that lose loved ones due to drunk drivers blame Chevrolet because the drunk guy was driving a Camaro?

Let’s take a little stroll through history. In 1911, Turkey established gun control, and from 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians that were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. Hitler established gun control laws in Germany in 1938, and, well, we all know what happened next. Nobody needs to tell me what kind of weapons I can own, and that I can, in fact, own them.

I hear so many people saying that they would feel so much safer if all the guns were taken away. Are you on crack? Making guns illegal wouldn’t get rid of them any more than meth or heroin being illegal takes them off the streets. On average, it takes 3-5 minutes for police to respond to a 911 call. If an intruder were to break into your home, what are you going to do for those 3-5 minutes? It could go two ways. One, the intruder is going to tear you up since chances are they are not the law abiding types to hand over any weapons. Two, you grab your weapon and hold the bastard at gunpoint until the cops show up, or you could always just shoot them, since they don’t belong in your house in the first place.

Even the recent legislation regarding weapons is BS. Limiting capacity size in magazines? If I am a law abiding citizen, protected by the Second Amendment, then why the hell can’t I go blast 30 rounds out of an AR-15 if I choose to? Because some idiots that are mentally unstable go cause mass violence? Guns in the hands of honest, mentally stable people could save lives. Just imagine how many thugs would pull guns on people if there was a chance that they could be greeted with the barrel of a gun themselves. My guess would be not many.
