Women’s soccer clinches playoff spot

The North Idaho College women’s soccer team qualified for postseason play after Saturday’s 4-0 win over Colorado State University’s club team in Salt Lake City.

With the win, NIC clinched a berth in the District C Tournament in Cheyenne, Wyo., Nov. 1 and 2.

Previously, the Lady Cardinals routed Dakota County Technical College (Rosemount, Minn.) 6-1 Oct. 11 in NIC’s final home game of the season.

Six different NIC players scored, including sophomore Ellie Engel, who had two assists as well. Engel’s goal gave the Lady Cardinals a 2-1 lead. It was her first goal of the year after leading her team in scoring last year.

Tiffany Draper, Alyssa Allen and Taylor Peterson also scored and assisted for the Lady Cardinals. Emilee Cordon and Jaimee Hulst scored back-to-back goals to extend NIC’s lead.

After Draper scored to give NIC a 1-0 lead, the Lady Blue Knights answered right back four minutes later to tie it.

NIC reeled off three more first-half goals to put the Lady Cardinals up 4-1 at halftime. Allen and Peterson’s goals in the second half rounded out the 5-0 scoring run.
