April ASNIC Resolutions

The Associated Students of North Idaho College passed several resolutions at their latest meeting on April 24 2018. The resolutions passed pertained to the 2018-2019 ASNIC budget, instructor evaluations and the canvas of the ASNIC Spring 2018 elections.

The ASNIC budget comes from a $28 fee collected from each enrolled student each semester. As NIC has seen a decline in enrollment recently, the budget has seen a shortfall and several programs such as Outdoor Pursuits, Pep Band and Leadership Development may see a significant decrease in funding.

NIC recently held spring 2018 elections for student body government. ASNIC reports that a total of 260 students cast their votes. Peter Soderberg, who ran uncontested, brought in 248 votes for ASNIC President. Vice President candidate Scott Kennedy won with 104 votes, and ASNIC will be welcoming 8 new senators by vote in Paul McLeod, Montana Dobbs, Savanna Storro, Josh Grant, Sadie Frantzich and Eduin Amador, with 2 senator seats offered to Stephanie Billman and Brad Darrow by current ASNIC President Caleb Weeks and Vice President Robert Smith.

Also on the agenda was a resolution pertaining to instructor evaluations.  Former ASNIC senator Erica Case first brought to light student concerns regarding the instructor evaluation process.  Current student government has continued to investigate and ensure that the current instructor evaluation process is a meaningful and useful tool to highlight not only areas of excellence but also where improvement is needed.  Lita Burns, Vice President of Instruction and Larry Briggs, Dean of General Studies have formed a committee comprised of students to review current NIC policies for faculty employment, tenure and professional ethics among other topics.
