Rec. Center looks for student involvement

The Student Wellness Recreation Center (SWRC) is hosting group events for students wishing to be active. Students can participate in volleyball and basketball tournaments, fitness challenges, and dodgeball games.

“Getting involved with Rec Sports is really simple,” said Angie Rios, Coordinator of Recreational Sports and Fitness Programs.

Current NIC students, faculty and staff can visit the SWRC and sign up for these events as a free agent. They will then be placed on a team.  Additionally, students can retrieve a team sign-up sheet and turn it in by the due date of the specific event.

Fitness challenges include box jumps, monkey bar challenges and the climbing wall. Best performances in each event will be awarded a “Rec Sports Champs” shirt. Two overall winners will also win five free fitness classes.

The SWRC mission is to provide opportunities to foster community and give a sense of belonging through physical activity. Programs are intended to engage all participants and promote overall wellness. The SWRC provides a positive environment for students to develop themselves with many opportunities for involvement.

Full-time students have free memberships to the SWRC. Students taking less than 12 credits must pay for a membership. Any SWRC member may take a guest with them.

Clubs who want to hold events at the SWRC can contact Angie Rios and Jacob Rothrock for information.

The SWRC is open Monday through Saturday with closures on national holidays and holiday breaks.
